The Google Authenticator app generates random verification codes on your phone that are valid for a limited time, and it will regenerate a new code every 30 seconds. In addition to your password, you’ll also need the code generated by the Google Authenticator app on your phone to sign in. This process does require having a modern smartphone such as an iPhone or Android phone.
Download the Google Authenticator App on your smartphone:
- Go to the App Store on your phone and search for “Google Authenticator”. The app should look like this:
- Download and install the app, then open it
Adding Google Authenticator to your Account as an authentication factor when you are being prompted to setup authentication factors:
- From a desktop or laptop computer using a full web browser, such as Google Chrome, log into OneLogin using your UC credentials
- You'll be prompted with the below. Click Begin Setup
- Select the “Google Authenticator” factor
- A “Google Authenticator” window will pop up that contains a QR code
- From the Google Authenticator app on your phone, tap the + in the bottom right corner to add a profile
- Click on “Scan a QR code”
- Scan the QR code shown on your computer screen. Once it registers, you will see the OneLogin: jdoe12345@ucumberlands.edu profile listed with a 6-digit rotating code in the app
- Follow the prompts on your computer to finish logging in and enter the 6-digit code from the app if prompted
Log in with the Google Authenticator App
Whenever you log in on a computer, tablet, or phone, and the Google Authenticator app is your primary security factor, you may be asked for the code from the app.
- Enter your UC username and password
- The next screen will display, prompting you to “Enter your code”
- Open up the Google Authenticator app to view the code and type it in to log in
